What is Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning is a process whereby the applicants prior learning can be formally recognized in terms of registered qualifications and unit standards, regardless of where and how the learning was attained. RPL acknowledges that people never stop learning, whether it takes place formally at an educational institution, or whether it happens informally.

Workplace experience also falls under the ARPL, as a candidate was exposed to a certain trade for more than 3 years the candidate can then apply for a trade test in his field of work if he feels that he/she has the experience that is needed.

Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning Requirements

All candidates seeking access to a trade test / External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) through Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning must have:

 

  • Completed a standardised official application form provided via the website or at our Campus.
  • Have accumulated a minimum of three years relevant verifiable work experience for a particular trade.
  • The minimum years of work experience may be accumulated from various traceable employers or services provided to customers in the relevant trade.
  • The minimum age for a person to register for ARPL is nineteen (19).
  • You might have to complete an FLC if you do not have matric with Maths, price on request.

What do we need from you?

A copy of your South African ID document that is certified no older than 3 months

A copy of your trade specific certificates (if any is available).

Letters of the company you have worked for or appraisal/reference letters from your clients, that clearly lists the duties you performed as a Plumber.

  • Ensure that’s it is on a company letterhead and duly dated covering 3 years
  • OR a affidavit if working for yourself
  • Any Quotations/invoices done on the job. (That can surf as proof when working for yourself)

Any other documentation that will be evident that you have been in the field of Bricklaying, Electrical or Plumbing.
